Beggining Bounty Bug

Hi everybody, from what I've heard, Public Programs are only the tip of the iceberg concerning bug bounty..most of the programs go private.

Is it a good strategy to start with VDPs on, let's say, Hacker01, which is easier to find vulns, in order to gather some points and get invited on private programs?!?
